Overview
Colby Community College is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented full-time Custodian to join our team. This position plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for employees, students, visitors, and community members. The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, be self-motivated, and be able to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision. This position will report to the Custodial Services Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled custodial activities to maintain the proper appearance of the college facilities’ interiors;
- Performs custodial activities to include, but not limited to, general cleaning of buildings, restrooms, and classrooms;
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting;
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and other common areas;
- Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners;
- Refill paper products and soap dispensers as needed;
- Clean windows, doors, and interior glass;
- Maintain floor care, including buffing, stripping, and waxing (as required);
- Report any safety hazards, needed repairs, or maintenance concerns to the supervisor;
- Secure the building after hours as needed;
- Follow all safety and sanitation policies and procedures;
- Accurately records data to maintain inventory for cleaning chemicals, supplies, and paper goods;
Supports the daily operation of the custodial team and fulfills other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of safe operation and preventative equipment maintenance is commonly used when performing custodial tasks.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength;
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions with the capacity to read and interpret labels, follow oral and written communication, and work independently;
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies.
- Most work is performed in environmentally controlled buildings. Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases, and hazardous chemicals exists.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Physically able to lift 25+ pounds, bend, kneel, and be on feet for extended periods.
Strong attention to detail and reliability.
HOURS/SCHEDULE
Must be able to follow work schedules:
- School Hours (August through May) are 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
- Summer Hours (June and July) are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
SALARY
$16.00 – $17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of the 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,100 students annually.
