Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a member owned electrical distribution cooperative dedicated to “Delivering Energy for Life” to our communities in western and central Kansas. Due to an upcoming retirement, we have an opening for a District Manager over our Scott City, Leoti, Tribune, and Syracuse offices. The successful applicant must reside in one of the districts they oversee. Our employees are welcoming and committed to your success and to the success of the department.

Opportunities:

Directs all daily operations activities to provide safe, reliable, high quality, electrical services for members/owners.
Responsible for safety and training of all assigned personnel.
Develop safe switching procedures for electrical distribution and transmission system.
Work with the Manager of Safety & Compliance to ensure facilities, property, and work sites meet safety, regulatory, and insurance requirements.
Responsible for all personnel actions for assigned operations personnel.
Supervision of all tree trimming, maintenance, construction, and daily activity within service districts.
Works with the Manager of Substations on substation medication or construction within service districts.
Assists with troubleshooting for care for the needs of member/owners.
Responsible for job site inspections and work order inspections.

Summary:

The District Manager ensures that the electrical facilities are constructed, maintained, and operated in a safe and efficient manner to industry accepted standards in accordance with sound engineering design, assuring its members of an adequate and reliable supply of electric energy. They also ensure that the electrical facilities meet National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and that there is adequate planning, including long and short-range plans and programs, for the orderly development of distribution and substation facilities. They promote safe efficient work practices for all line personnel.

 

Top Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Completion of an approved 4-year lineman apprenticeship program.
Have five (5) years of supervisory experience OR ten (10) years of electrical lineman experience.
Be knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and Outlook, or equivalent products.
The ability to research new equipment and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) laws and regulations using a wide variety of sources including (but not limited to) the internet, catalogues, and government publications.
Have a strong knowledge of, and the ability to interpret, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), environmental, Kansas Corporate Commission (KCC), and Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) regulations, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications for overhead and underground construction, National Electrical Safety Code, and local and state codes as they relate to the Cooperative.
Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Able to listen and interpret what individuals are asking/telling you.
Able to maintain confidential Cooperative and employee information.
Able to evaluate a posed question or problem and make competent decisions within a reasonable amount of time.
Possess a professional presence which promotes responsible, reliable, and efficient work habits. Must demonstrate dependability, flexibility, honesty, and integrity.
Requires the mental capability to perform job responsibilities with little or no supervision.
Able to keep files, schedules, and projects organized.
