Overview
Wheatland Electric Cooperative is looking for a person with strong attention to detail for our Payroll Specialist. This position will train in our Scott City office for an extended period of time, up to one year. Following training, this position can be located in Scott City, Garden City, Great Bend, or Harper.
Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s Degree in Business or Accounting with 2 years of payroll or accounting experience; or 4 years of payroll or accounting experience. American Payroll Association (APA) Fundamentals of Payroll Certification or the ability to obtain the certification is preferred.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of payroll, including, but not limited to, computing employees’ earnings, taxes and deductions for accurate and timely pay per pay schedule. They prepare tax reports (including quarterly and annual reports) and make tax payments. The successful applicant must be able to meet deadlines, have excellent organizational and communication skills, be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Finalist will be required to successfully pass a post offer/pre-employment background check to include a credit check and a drug screening.
