Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a member owned electrical distribution cooperative dedicated to “Delivering Energy for Life” to our communities in western and central Kansas. We have an opening for a Manager of Safety and Compliance. This job can be located in our Scott City, Harper, Garden City, or Great Bend, Kansas offices. Opportunities:
Develop, implement, and monitor safety and compliance policies and programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Lead and coordinate safety training and awareness programs to ensure employees are equipped with the knowledge to operate safely.
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments at job sites and facilities.
Monitor compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and other applicable regulations and industry standards specific to the electrical utility industry.
Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents, conducting root cause analysis and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
Manage documentation related to safety compliance, including safety reports, audits, incident investigations, and regulatory filings.
Stay current with changes in regulations, industry standards, and safety best practices to ensure continued compliance.
Foster a proactive safety culture by working closely with leadership and front-line employees to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.

Summary: Directs all aspects of Wheatland Electric Cooperative’s safety and compliance program. This position is an integral part of the senior management team with shared responsibility for the implementation of the Cooperative’s policies, procedures, and strategic plan.
Top Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree with 5 years’ line work experience or associate degree with 7 years’ line work experience or Journeyman Lineman certification with 10 years’ line work experience required.
Completion of National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Certified Loss Control Professional (CLCP) Program is preferred or must be completed in three years.
Knowledgeable in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, or equivalent products.
The ability to research safety laws and regulations using a wide variety of sources including (but not limited to) the internet and government publications.
Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Able to listen and interpret what individuals are asking/telling you.
Able to maintain confidential Cooperative and employee information.
Be skilled in all work required in connection with the installation of materials, apparatus, and equipment used in electrical distribution services. Able to independently search out learning opportunities to expand and update consumer service knowledge.
Knowledge of Pole Top rescue techniques.
Able to evaluate a posed question or problem and make competent decisions within a reasonable amount of time.
Possess a professional presence which promotes responsible, reliable, and efficient work habits. Must demonstrate dependability, flexibility, honesty, and integrity.
Requires the mental capability to perform job responsibilities with little or no supervision.
Able to keep files, schedules, and projects organized.
