Overview

Phillips County Health Systems is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable individual who has a desire to work on a variety of build maintenance and grounds projects.

JOB SUMMARY

To perform a variety of skilled and unskilled jobs about the buildings and grounds to insure the proper maintenance functions of the Hospital and the Medical Clinic in Phillipsburg. Works assigned hours, usually daytime and occasionally evenings on situational projects.

Will participate in an “on call” rotation designed to meet the maintenance needs of the hospital and clinics on a 24-hour per day basis. Must be able to respond within 20 minutes. Work days include Monday – Friday and on-call weekends. Shifts may vary based on facility maintenance needs, typically 8-hour days with shifts between 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 20-28 hours a week.

JOB DUTIES (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

– Makes minor to major repairs throughout the healthcare system grounds and facilities on:

  • Equipment and Furnishing
  • Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical systems
  • Wood, metal, and concrete structures
  • Building structure
  • Walks and driveways

-Drives and obtains necessary medicines and equipment when necessary. Includes regular trips to local merchants and occasionally out-of-town trips for blood, medicines, surgery equipment, and other related items. The hospital vehicle will be used for these trips.
-Distributes large/heavy freight to areas from point of delivery.
-Bags hazardous waste for pickup.
-Constructs minor equipment and furnishings (shelves, tables cupboards, etc.)
-Maintains lawn and grounds including mowing, trimming, watering, weed control, planting, landscaping, etc.
-Maintains walkways and parking areas including snow and ice removal.
-Cooperates with medical gas supplier to maintain adequate supply of medical gases.
-Checks on and completes verbal, written, and electronic work orders, and does preventive maintenance daily
-Involvement in hospital groups and activities as requested by the maintenance manager/supervisor.
-Maintains department records as required.
-Other tasks as assigned by the maintenance manager/supervisor.
-Uses the following equipment:Power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, grinders, etc.

  • Hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, saws, wrenches, shovels, etc.
  • Cutting torch and welder
  • Mowers and trimmers
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Utility vehicle/tractor and attachments
