Overview

Norton County Hospital is seeking compassionate, calm-under-pressure Healthcare Security Officers to join our team on an as-needed basis. We are building a pool of security officers that could respond when off-duty from their primary jobs.  In this role, you will help ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff by responding to emergency situations, using de-escalation techniques, managing aggressive behavior, and providing strong customer service in a healthcare setting.  The security officer would assist our medical personnel during times when additional security is needed, but law enforcement is not required.

As a Security Officer, you will be a key part of a collaborative team that values empathy, professionalism, and the ability to de-escalate high-tension situations. This position is unarmed and requires sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to respond appropriately to emotional, medical, and behavioral crises.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to situations when called by the Hospital staff.
Use verbal de-escalation techniques to manage potentially aggressive or confrontational individuals without resorting to unnecessary force.
Monitor and enforce hospital visitation policies under the guidance of nursing or safety leadership.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism while handling sensitive patient and staff information.

Possess an empathy-first mindset to work effectively with vulnerable patients and their families.
Exhibit physical fitness and strength suitable for emergency response and intervention duties.
Demonstrate excellent de-escalation, communication, and customer service skills.
Exhibit emotional maturity, particularly when working around patients experiencing emotional, medical, and behavioral crises.
Successful applicants will receive the required onboarding and education from the hospital.  This is an as-needed, hourly employee paid for time during a response.

Qualifications:

Preferred background in security, law enforcement, military police, corrections, or industrial security.
Previous experience or training in verbal de-escalation is highly desirable.
