Dairy & Feed – Feed Inspector

Overview

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

This position will remain posted until filled. Candidates must be located in or around the following Kansas counties:  Ellis, Rooks, Russell, Osborne, Graham, Trego County, Kansas.

Conduct inspections and collect samples of feed in accordance with established procedures. Submits samples to the laboratory for analysis and take appropriate enforcement action when product does not comply with established standards. Follow-up inspections for stop sales as appropriate.
Conduct Current Good Manufacturing Practices inspections at facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold animal food under State and Federal authority. Conduct preventive controls inspections as required by workplan. Conduct inspections to determine compliance with medicated feeds, veterinary feed directive, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Conduct inspections to determine compliance with state and federal feed labeling laws.
Complete inspection reports, complaint reports, investigation reports and all other reports in an accurate, legible, and concise manner.  Enter inspection data into the database and submit reports to office.
Investigates consumer complaints; testify in administrative hearings and in court cases pertaining to violations of Kansas laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Milling Science & Management or Animal Science preferred. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
Experience in understanding the inner workings of various types of feed mills preferred.
Minimum of two years of feed mill operation experience preferred.
Two years of regulatory work preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with diverse groups of partners (e.g. state agencies, federal agencies and other operating groups).
Strong oral and written communication skills required.
Basic computer skills required.
Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
Upon hire, the candidate will be required to pass a Federal background check for FDA Commissioning.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Range: $40,000 – $42,000 Per Year
Hourly Pay Range: $19.23 – $20.19 Per Hour
