Nicodemus
National Historic Site helps preserve, protect, and interpret
Nicodemus
,
Kansas
– the only remaining of the all-Black town established along the Western
frontier at the end of the Reconstruction period (1877).
The town of
Nicodemus
illustrates how African Americans participated in the western expansion of the
United States
and the settlement of the
Great Plains
. Nicodemus National Historic Site
is one of 388 National Parks. We
lease the historic (1929) Nicodemus Township Hall for use as a visitor center;
the visitor center is open to the public seven days a week, from 8:30am to
5:00pm every day. The successful
candidate will be working during the town’s big event of the summer—the
Homecoming/Emancipation Celebration—during the last weekend of July.
Approximately 500-1,000 people attend this event each year.
Please
encourage your students to take advantage of this opportunity to see what it is
like to work for the Federal government, at a very interesting historic
location. Thank you very much for
your assistance in promoting this position!
