Full-Time Lineman

Job Description

Primary functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Construct, patrol and maintain distribution lines and facilities as directed in accordance with established, approved standards and engineering specifications
• Operate transportation and work equipment in accordance with operating procedures
• Perform such duties as changing poles, transformers, insulators and reclosers on energized or de-energized distribution/transmission lines
• See that all safety rules and regulations are followed by themselves and line personnel
• Report all accidents to the crew chief, manager of operations and/or vice president of operations
• Conduct voltage checks on distribution transformers on a member’s premises
• Attend and participate in morning operations department meetings and safety meetings
• Inform crew chief of any repairs necessary to vehicles and work equipment
• Positively promote the cooperative with a good attitude and good member relations
• Read and record readings on the substation meters and associated equipment
• Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal, as well as listening
• Determine the procedure to be used in locating trouble and the cause of an outage
• Able to install, remove and connect transformers and familiar with all aspects of metering
• Observe all traffic laws, safety rules and regulations when operating transportation and work equipment, and is required to maintain a valid Kansas Class A CDL driver’s license
• Review construction methods and procedures and recommend improvements as needed
• Operate bucket and digger trucks
• Trim trees and perform other cleaning of right-of-way as required
• Maintain warehouse and vehicles in a neat and orderly manner
• Read meters and check readings as directed
• Assist in the maintenance of oil circuit reclosers
• Install and remove meters and transformers
• Process connect, disconnect, change-outs and trouble orders
• Perform voltage tests for voltage complaints
• Participate on the on-call outage rotation schedule
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the crew chief, manager of operations, and/or vice president of operations
• Must exercise initiative, good judgment, organization and knowledge of cooperative practices and policies
• Able to work with new tools and technologies
• Possess the knowledge and ability to understand and correctly document daily tasks on an iPad
