Facilities Maintenance Supervisor – HVAC position is now open. Hours 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday – Friday.

The primary mission of this position is to contribute to the physical upkeep of Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility through diagnosis, repair, and upkeep of systems delivering water, air, and steam. At the journeyman level, participates in the building trades for the upkeep and repair of the agency

Job duties include: Installation and service of heating and air conditioning units. Repairs and maintains boiler and chiller units. Repairs or replaces circulating pumps in both hot and chill water loops. Makes needed repairs to all phases of the mechanical and pneumatic controls, motors, and operators. Ensures the chemical injection system for the chiller is operating properly so that the PH and TDS are at safe operating parameters. If not, makes the needed repairs to ensure there is no damage to either chiller or boiler systems. Maintains air handling systems as well as fan terminals. Ensures maintenance is being done on both chill water and hot water systems. Maintains and repairs all makeup air units as well as exhaust fans. Assists others in all areas of maintenance when needed. Does preventative maintenance on all chill water and boiler systems as well as relief and exhaust fans. Supervises and instructs offender detail to work in a safe manner and assist in giving offenders a trade and experience that can be used when looking for a job after incarceration.

Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades of which three years must be at the skilled (journeyman) level in at least one mechanical or building trade.

Necessary Special Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, and or Registrations
Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls a variety of materials. Weight usually does not exceed 75 pounds. When weights are heavier, the incumbent may be assisted by other department personnel or use mechanical equipment. Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, and crouches to gain access to equipment. Fingers small parts. Reaches for and handles a variety of hand tools. Near-visual acuity is needed to read blue prints and in paint color, detecting signal lights and malfunctioning equipment. Works inside and outside.
Federal Universal Certification is required by the environmental Protection Agency to maintain service, dispose, or repair equipment containing CFC’s, HCFC’s and HFC’s. Employee must have an EPA approved CFC and general Refrigerant reclamation certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of start date.

Successful Candidates must have valid driver’s license, pass background investigation, employment check, drug screen, and tb test.
